- Expansion
and contraction are normal for all wood due
to changes in temperature and humidity. Proper
acclimating and a snug installation will minimize
these occurrences although wider widths have
a greater tendency for movement.
- Heart
Pine should be acclimated for 10 - 15 days
in the room in which it is to be installed.
All concrete and plasterwork in the room should
be complete and the A/C or heat should be
on before wood is brought into the room.
- In a dry climate we suggest
immediate installation of wider widths to minimize waste and cupping.
- We
strongly recommend that your floor be installed
by an experienced Heart Pine flooring professional.
- Trim
all checks and splits on top and bottom of
flooring during installation.
- Patch
and sand all decayed or open knots.
- Face
nailing using finish or cut nails (#8) or
wood screws countersunk and pegged on 6 7/8",
8 7/8" and 10 7/8" widths is strongly
recommended.
- Install
with a flooring hammer. Nail through the tongue
edge every 8" to 10".
- A
light stain is recommended if initial is too
light in color. However, exposure to sunlight
will darken floor considerably over time.
- Three
coats of waterborne, polyurethane or oil finish
containing no UV-blockers are popular finishes.
- Trimming
of ends and matching widths is recommended
when necessary.
